Book Review:Master Your Metabolism

Book Review:
If you have ever read Skinny Bitch, this is almost what I felt like I was reading but in a nicer tone. In the beginning of the book Jillian talks about how the various things that damage our metabolism is the introduction of hormones from various sources throwing our natural hormones off in different ways. She describes which hormones play an impact in our metabolism and ways that environmental and other things (such as leading a sedentary lifestyle) can make these hormones go out of whack. By following her plan of

Remove- getting rid of toxic food and toxic environmental factors which you can control (she goes into depth explaining what these toxic elements are)

Restore- This area focuses on eating foods that will repair and nourish your body. Her one sentence “if it didn’t have a mother and it didn’t grow from the ground, don’t eat it”. She is also a big proponent of going ORGANIC.

Rebalance- This is all about eating every 4 hours and listening to your body and its cues.

There is also a meal plan, tips on getting enough sleep and distressing, and exercise suggestions to go along with it.

I was really motivated after reading this book. It’s been about 36 hours and from this book I have been actually making more conscious choices about what I eat. It has phenomenal facts on how disruptions of hormones now lead to things like PCOS, Metabolic Syndrome, and Diabetes to name a few. It is a shame that our foods and our environment contains so many harmful things to our health and the only way to minimize some of those effects are to take control of our lives in any way we can. I think this is actually purchase worthy and will probably repurchase Skinny Bitch (right now I only have it on audiobook) to try to incorporate some of the ideas from both of these books into my life (it’s not going to be easy though).

Amazon Review:
Does it feel as if you’re fighting your body to lose even one pound—or just to maintain your current weight? Respected health and wellness expert and bestselling author Jillian Michaels has been there, too. So she consulted top experts in the field of metabolism and discovered that she’d inadvertently been abusing her endocrine system for years. After “fixing” her own metabolism, she decided to share what she learned by devising this simple, 3-phase plan that engages all the weight-loss hormones (including the friendly HGH, testosterone, DHEA; and the not-so-friendly: insulin, cortisol, and excess estrogen).

In Master Your Metabolism, discover how to:
REMOVE “anti-nutrients” from your diet
RESTORE foods that speak directly to fat-burning genes
REBALANCE energy and your hormones for effortless weight loss

Michaels offers a wealth of information throughout, including: shopping lists and online shopping resources, hormone-trigger food charts, how to eat “power nutrient” foods on a budget, smart strategies for eating out, quick and easy recipes, as well as mini-programs for addressing PMS, andropause, metabolic syndrome, PCOS, and menopause.

Thanks! This sounds similar to the diet reform that is listed in my book on PCOS (which is a horrible condition that I suffer with along with Metabolic Syndrome).

I might look into it...Thanks!
